Salud de Central, a three-hour evening event held earlier this month to raise awareness of and increase consumer activity at Central Avenue businesses, was so successful that both its hosts and participating businesses want to repeat it in the fall.
About 140 people attended, enjoying food, beer, products and entertainment from 30+ businesses that gathered to provide a one-stop shop experience at the Banque Lofts.
“By the end of the night, people were line dancing to the music,” said Vanessa Roanhorse, project coordinator for the Small Business Resource Collaborative, which hosted the event along with the Banque Lofts.
The response was so positive, Roanhorse said, that everyone involved is talking about creating a second act in October to usher in the holiday shopping season.
In addition to marketing the corridor to the public, the event brought together neighboring businesses that had never spoken before but that now see opportunities for collaboration.
Organizers said the City of Albuquerque was instrumental in making the event easy for participants by waiving at least one permit fee and assisting with nearby parking. The SBRC helped businesses set up and break down for the event.
Central Grill and Coffee House won the $3,000 giveaway in radio spots from Cumulus Radio.
